The People
Where is Wajjuu?
Wajjuu is a rural community of villages about 70 km north of Addis Ababa, the Capital City of Ethiopia. It is about 10 km off the nearest paved road.
Who are the people of Wajjuu?
Wajjuu is home to about 10,000 people and is considered to be one of the least developed areas of Ethiopia. The socio-economic life is generally limited to subsistence agriculture and live stock rearing. Most of the Wajjuu communities are very poor and not self sufficient in food production and are unable to meet most of their basic needs. The majority of children do not go to school.
The Need:
Clean Water
Most of us take clean water for granted. It's something we don't even think about. However in areas such as Wajjuu, clean water is key to securing health, education and economic wellbeing. It means girls, boys, men and women will be freed up to attend school and/or pursue income generating activities; girls and boys will now have time to play and just be kids. It means eradicating water borne diseases and building a healthier and happier community.
